Rival Cosmetic Surgery

I put a down payment for surgery within one hour of my consultation with Dr. Rival and I have no regrets. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and results. Similar to many, my nose was something I was deeply insecure about for years. As a young girl who struggles with this insecurity, I was primarily concerned with finding a surgeon that would make me feel comfortable, heard, and of course, is skilled. I was planning on having many consultations but after I met Dr. Rival, I knew he was the right choice. He was extremely kind and gave me the space to discuss my desires without making assumptions about what I wanted. In our conversation he was very honest about what he can accomplish with my biology. After I left the consultation I knew exactly what to expect. The surgery and recovery went very smoothly. Indeed, when I came in to remove the cast, the hospital staff was amazed at how little bruising and swelling I experienced, which is likely a testament to Dr. Rival’s skill. I was able to return to my summer job a week earlier than I anticipated. I am now three months post surgery and my nose still looks very natural while also being refined with the changes I requested. Picking a surgeon is a daunting and overwhelming task. However, the choice becomes clear with Dr. Rival and I would pick him every time.

Naturally, I was nervous to go through a third surgery, but Dr. Rival and his team provided the highest quality professional care and made the entire experience so positive and comforting. From the initial consultation all the way to surgery, Dr. Rival was incredibly caring, kind, and informative. He gave me all the time and answers I needed to feel completely comfortable and equipped during the decision-making process. The surgery itself was exceptionally well done, and I am so happy with my results. The results were just as he explained to me, and exceeded my expectations. Dr. Rival and his team ensured I was cared for throughout the whole process, kept me comfortable, and actively checked in on me through emails and phone calls post-op. From start to finish, my rhinoplasty experience with Dr. Rival and his team was incredibly smooth. All of the staff were so warm, welcoming, and patient. They answered every single one of my questions and made me feel completely at ease throughout the entire process. Dr. Rival truly listened to all my concerns and took the time to show me what was realistic before going into surgery. I never felt rushed or dismissed. On the day of my procedure, they took amazing care of me, and the pre‑op and post‑op instructions were extremely thorough, which made recovery so much easier. The clinic was beautiful and had a calming environment that eased my nerves the morning of my surgery. I am beyond happy with my results. My nose looks natural, refined, and still like me. I had a very bulbous, droopy tip and a large bump on my bridge, and now I have the most perfect nose while still maintaining my facial harmony. During my consultation, Dr. Rival refused to consider the specific facial proportions I requested. He stated he would not narrow my nose because it was 'normal for my ethnicity,' which in my opinion ignored my individual facial geometry. I felt racially pigeonholed by this approach, and to me, it felt more like cultural gatekeeping rather than individualized medical care. Based on my experience, if you are a person of color, I personally would suggest finding another surgeon. When evaluating my nose, all he commented was that it was normal for people of my ethnicity to have a wider alar base and that my nose was “cute”. While i’m sure it was not his intention, as an east asian adult it came across like he was infantilizing me rather than being objective. I paid $100-200 for a consultation, but I felt like my concerns were not addressed at all, no actionable advice was provided and to be honest it was kinda rushed (took less than 5 minutes), with him refusing to answer questions at the end. I highly regret even coming in for the appointment and spending my money here. To be fair his secretary was very kind and i’m sure Dr. Rival was well meaning. I’m not claiming that he’s a HORRIBLE surgeon who’s gonna BOTCH people’s surgeries, in fact from what i’ve seen online, he is very skilled and the office is clean but I just think he might not be the best option for patients of color. I respect a surgeons right to refuse surgery when they are uncomfortable doing it, it is the ethical thing to do and I completely understand. It was mainly how rushed the appointment was, how dismissed I felt and the comments that left a bad taste in my mouth. My goal in sharing this is simply to provide a warning for other patients of color based on my firsthand experience. It is important to find a provider who listens to your individual goals rather than viewing your features through a generalized lens.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery with Dr.Rival, you’re in good hands. My experience started with a consultation that felt safe, he explained the procedure in detail, and was clear about the outcome he expected. Dr. Rival is a very warm person, that was a big reason I chose him. The day of the surgery Dr. Rival again made me feel safe, the experience was fantastic, and my result was exactly as he explained it. After surgery the recovery stage was made easy because of the professionalism of his entire team, there was never a time they weren’t available or responsive. I Highly recommend Dr.Rival.
